Trezor.io/Start® | Starting Up Your Device | Trezor®

Welcome

This page guides you through powering on and initializing your Trezor hardware wallet safely. Follow each step carefully to protect your recovery phrase and your funds. The instructions below are intentionally simple and practical: prepare a clean surface, a stable internet connection, your computer or phone, and the official Trezor website. Don’t rush; security depends on attention to detail.

Before you begin

  • Verify you have the official Trezor device, sealed packaging, and tamper-evident tape.
  • Use a secure, personal computer — avoid public or shared machines.
  • Have a pen and durable paper to write your recovery phrase — do not store it digitally.
  • Ensure your browser is up to date and navigate only to trezor.io/start.

Step-by-step setup

Connect and verify
Attach your Trezor to the computer or phone via the supplied cable. The device will display a welcome screen. Confirm the model number and device firmware prompt match the packaging.
Open Trezor Suite or website
Visit trezor.io/start and follow the on-screen instructions. Official software will guide the firmware installation and initialization flow. Only approve actions shown on the physical device.
Create a new wallet
Choose to create a new device if this is your first Trezor. The device will generate a recovery phrase — record it exactly in the order shown. Never photograph or copy the phrase into digital notes.
Confirm and test
Trezor will request confirmation of several words from the recovery phrase to ensure accuracy. After confirmation, set a PIN code. Test a small transaction to validate everything works as expected.
Store securely
Keep the written recovery phrase in a safe, fireproof place. Consider multiple geographically separated copies. Never share the phrase with anyone — legitimate support will never ask for it.

Additional recommendations

Consider using a discreet label system for multiple backups and keep at least two copies in separate secure locations. Avoid sharing setup photos or screenshots, and do not use cloud-synced machines for storing sensitive information. Maintain an offline copy of any device-specific instructions and keep contact details for official support readily accessible.

Quick safety tips

Treat your recovery phrase and PIN with the same care you would cash or a bank key. Use a unique PIN you can remember but that is hard to guess. Regularly update your computer's security software. If you suspect tampering, stop and contact official support through the Trezor website.
